I came across two wonderful quotes last night, both from rabbis.
Here is the first, by Hillel:
That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow. That is the whole Torah; the rest is the explanation; go and learn.
I love that. The Golden Rule is the essence of spirituality, and the rest is just commentary.
The second quote is new to me. It comes from Rabbi Israel Salanter:
Most people worry about their own bellies and other peoples’ souls, when we all ought to worry about our own souls and other peoples’ bellies.
That condenses so much of spirituality into one sentence! I love it.
